Fosters play a critical role in our success. The number of dogs we save depends on the number of people who open their homes and hearts to foster them. When fostering, we encourage you to share your experiences and insights with us. This helps ensure a perfect fit with their "furever" home.
Fostering is providing a temporary home for one of our shelter animals who needs special care. It allows them to become socialized and accustomed to a home environment. Dogs who were fostered always get adopted right away since they do not need as much training and have a more detailed personality profile.

What am I responsible for? What does it cost?
There is no cost to you to foster. We will provide you with the necessary supplies needed for the dog(s) you are fostering. As a foster family, all you need to provide is:
- Safe, clean, caring environment
- Food, water, and shelter
- Socialization
- Exercise
- Transportation to/from necessary appointments
- Information on any medical and/or behavioral problems observed
Who pays for vet visits?
Since the dog you're fostering is still a LAPS dog, we cover any medical care or diagnostics, advertise your dog on our website, host adoption events where your dog can go to be seen by potential adopters, and are here to assist with behavioral questions.
Who will I foster and for how long?
During the application process, you can let us know what type of dog you are comfortable fostering. The fostering period can last anywhere from a few days to a month or more. Dogs most in need of fostering: litter of puppies, nursing moms, and dogs that need extra socialization.
I already own a pet. Can I still foster?
It can actually be helpful! Before you bring a foster dog home, make sure your own pets are up-to-date on their vaccinations. Socialization with other pets gives us more insight on their personality. Dogs with higher socialization skills become highly adoptable.
Is fostering right for me?
Fostering is an activity that can bring joy to any family that provides a temporary, loving home for a rescued pet.
