Rufftail Runners Laredo is a volunteer based, non-profit organization designed to take shelter dogs out of our shelter environment for fresh air and exercise in the park.

The idea was borrowed from Austin's own RuffTail Runners program. In late 2015, one of our volunteers, Ariella Scalese, came to us with the idea to open up our own program here in Laredo. We loved the concept and it was implemented in early 2016. Austin has been very gracious in sharing their program, trainings, and experience with RuffTail Runners Laredo.

To become a volunteer for this program, you must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver's license, and fill out the application.

Paws to Read

Children read to shelter animals, a beneficial program!
It:
- helps puppies/kittens learn to stop and listen
- helps shy/anxious pets to be trusting and come to the front of their kennel
- helps children learn empathy as well as animal behavior
- helps children improve their reading by providing a safe space to practice without the fear of judgment if a mistake is made

We have books available. Children can bring their favorite books. We are always appreciative of any books donated to expand our little library!
